I too hav just listed my boat for px just to get things moving but as to date very little interest, yet trying to deal with a broker/dealer on a px is the usual car dealer talk, nothing for yours but full value for there boat...... dream on im the one with the cash!!

From my experience px makes it a lot easier, I pxd a speedboat for a 31ft Maxum to a private seller (who then pxd it against another boat). I then pxd the Maxum a year later for my F43, otherwise I definately wouldnt have bought it there and then.

Good luck.

Why not .. If you get good money for yours and get something you can keep / trade. Sooner or later someone down the line new to boating will pay cash and it comes to an end. You may even find someone wanting to trade down and you maybe happy to trade up. At the end of the day if everyone is happy then it's a good deal. If you feel as though your being taken for a ride don't bother. At the moment it is a buyers market. I was thinking of a motor sailor but after showing SWMBO a few pictures of whats on offer and the state they are in we decided to stop with what we have. So you need plenty of really good pics ready to send and a follow up call / email.

When we bought our present boat the dealer gave us a trade in price for it and then agreed that if they sold it before the new one arrived they would take 3% commission on the sale. It sold 3 days before the new one turned up. The guy who bought it took it down the river with an elderly friend and decided it was to much for them to handle ( 21' ) and promptly asked them to re-sell it.

..

I don't know why I didn't think of this before (actually it wasn't my idea) it seems many transactions have been facilitated this way.

can you not be specific too regarding what you're willing to part x for e.g. a fast rib? rather than sell it on, keep hold of it and have the best of both worlds, the big boat + something to get the pulse rate up a bit

Can't see you as a sailor Roy, it would however give me free license to large amounts of piss take!!!

Seriously, the part ex is a good option, anything to get away from the headline figure and place emphasis on cost to change is good in my view! Maybe get that fisher so m can sit on the "yacht" and you can go reeling in dinner!

After reading all of the reply's it appears the way to go is to offer to take a px, but there may be another way. Why can't you keep your current ad running with your broker offering a px deal, then also run a private ad yourself as "Just reduced" or "massive reduction on price" or maybe even "Priced for a quick sale" at the minimum price (or close to it) that you are prepared to accept with no px offered clearly stated in your ad.

As a potential first time boat purchaser i am finding some of the ad's very confusing, i spoke to a dealer this week who has a boat up for sale at £430K they told me that they could put a deal together for £350K on the same boat. Five minutes before offering me this deal i had told him that my absolute maximum budget would be around the £350K mark. Because of this at the moment i am paying more attention to the ad's labelled "Priced to sell".

But "priced to sell" has no real meaning - the only thing that matters is what you are prepared to pay. You need also to be clear when being offered "deals" about the person you are dealing with. If it is a broker, then he does not own the boat - you are buying from a private person. On the other hand if it is a "dealer" that means he owns the boat and he may be more open to a deal or a Part Exchange.

Most contracts with brokers preclude you from offering the same boat at a lower price elsewhere.

I agree but "Priced for a quick sale" indicates to me a more realistic asking price closer to what the seller will actually accept...... IMHO.

What bothered me about the dealer in my previous post is that i get the feeling if i had told him that my max budget was £320K, he may have just offered me a deal for that price instead, who knows.

If this is the case with his current broker the seller has other choices, he could change brokers to one that doesn't have this policy, or he could just not use a broker at all and place private ad's.
