SpottyDog hasn’t sold yet, she had 12 viewings at the used boat show, with very positive feedback, but no offers.

I know, she is not the cheapest F43 on the market, but she is very nice example with a good spec, leather, crane, geny, low(ish) engine hours etc.
I need to hold something back, as I don’t expect the asking price and want to be able to negotiate the deal.

Whilst I’m not desperate, I’ve seen something I would like to buy ( isn’t that always the way ) but I understand it’s a slow market.

From what I understand, many peeps viewing boats now, would like to buy, but need to sell their first, if an effort to widen the appeal, should I offer a part exchange
on a cheaper boat ?

I have to say SD, she looks lovely so offering a px might just give potential buyers the nudge they need. When we were looking, we only went for px offers as we knew once we'd found the boat for us, we wouldn't want to lose out coz we had to sell ours first. It's definitely why we bought as quickly as we did.

Thanks Lisa, everyone who has been on her, has commented how nice she is..

rafike, I’m not sure, hence my post :) plus I quite fancy mulling over a part exchange prospect, might give me the opportunity to experience a facet of boating I hadn’t considered

Chances of finding a boat you would like to own instead of the one you have, with an owner who fancies yours are pretty slim.

Part Exs are usually dealer sponsored as their only criteria is whether they can shift the boat att a profit - not whether they like it and want to own it.

If you are selling to release some working captital, then why not consider a px but as others have said you need to be very lucky to get a boat you (& M) would be happy with in the mix. Go for it as you can always say no or become a brokerage.

Hi Chris
Not selling to release working capital, we have seen something bigger we would like to buy, I just refuse to have two large-ish boats at the same time.

My ideal trade-in would be around 25-27ft that I could do fishing in, but I am willing to consider anything interesting (including a sailboat).

I appreciate its very unlikely my dream boat will come along, but hey, you never know, I can always (try to) sell it....

Just looked at your advert and it does in fact say - PX considered. Assume you were thinking of doing something outside of a broker to make the deal more appealling perhaps on the PX price?

Hi Ripster,
The broker is really on the pace, she contacted me directly after my first post.
She changed the advert straight away for me.

BTW, I traded my P32 in to buy "Spotty" in a part exchange deal.

I did a PX on my last sale - sold a £125K boat and took a £25K 25' boat as PX. Only paid brokerage charges on the difference :). went and found another boat few months later and broker gave me £30K for my small PX. I had a good experience this way and would do it again for the right deal.

I bought my current Sealine F33 after PXing my previous boat with a private seller.
He didn’t really want my 27’ Searay but I guess he was getting a bit desperate because he’d had it on the market for 12 months and this was despite the fact that the price he was asking was reasonable. Compared to other F33’s.
It worked out really well for me because the broker who was handling the sale of the F33 handled pretty much everything(albeit very badly) and I didn’t pay any commission on the transaction.
I’d like to know if he kept the Searay – never did find out what actually happened to it!

I just sold my Phantom 46 earlier this year after taking an average condition Princess V40 in part ex. I think I would still own the phantom if I hadn't of done this. Anything over 40ft 'ish seems you have to be flexible and proactive otherwise you could be looking at it for a while in this climate.
The deal worked out quite well financially for both myself and the buyer.

The V40 is for sale and I would take another part ex either sail or power to facilitate another deal.

Be flexible in this climate and you will succeed.....
