I read recently, cant remember where about a gizmo that you set up on a boat that if the shore power on a boat goes off it sends a text to your mobile?

Any one have one, do the work well, who supplies them?

We also have had a problem at home where power trips off ,not really a problem except for fridges and deep freezes. Does any one know of a suitable system for this?

We have a KP Mini GSM Power Failure Alert System from Ultra Secure Direct . Had it for about 6 months now and it as been spot on. Couple of shore power failures and alerted no problem, If that's any help.

We have had an Energenie GSM socket for about 3 years - not only notifies of power outages, but also has a thermostat in it to auto control onboard heater. We leave it on all year round, but it's great in the winter, turning on an oil filled radiator when the temperature drops to a threshold level (and back off again when it warms up). Been brilliant. Probably not the cheapest, but been very reliable.

I use the Powertxt unit and it works very well.

I have a Thermotxt copy I picked up off ebay for 50 quid. It sends a text alert when power goes off and resumes, as well as switching bilge heaters on and off at set temperatures.

Yep just Google 12v GSM alarm or search for that on Ebay, plenty with various features including that for around £50.

I've had one for a couple of years now and it's alterted me several times to power failure.
I only have a few seconds to react though, 30 secs after the text arrives the alarm activates and I get a phone call! Just a case of answering the call and resetting the alarm.

I get another text when the power comes back on.

I read about an android app that does the same. Simply plug in (on charge) leave and when power is off it sends a text

Thermotxt/Energenie/Tekview/Lindy are all the same thing under different brands, and massively overpriced compared to the £20-ish it costs from the factory in China... but they work very well.

Yes, have a search, I've been using it for a couple of years. Sends sms or email and not just power. Location internet connection, decibels, sends a tracker file linking to google earth etc. etc. great if you have a spare old smartphone or buy one for less that specific equipment. It's called maxmon mouse hole or something like that. Uses very little data or non if you have an Internet connection at Your mooring. Oh, and it's free!
