Well I have one of those old cast iron electric board, or maybe gas board /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif metres on my boat. Only catch is that I pay the marina for electric, even if I,ve used the girlfriends generator to charge the bloody boat. I also refused to pay inflated price for a marina meter. Only trouble is, I'm now paying it in installments!!!

Illegal? I would have thought that they could charge whatever us idiots are prepared to pay..

They are probably charging 10p per unit for service provision. And with Fleetwood Marina being such a high class international establishment <grin> I'm sure they are using the 10p to give us the best quality lecky available!

I don't think so. The OFGEM guide for "resellers" of gas and electricity clearly states they can only charge customers the same as the unit price on their own bill. You have a right to view the reseller's bill to check this. However, the reseller is allowed to add a service charge but he must expalin to you how he has worked out the distribution of this charge between his customers should you so request.

Go to www.ofgem.gov.uk/ofgem/index.jsp and type "resale" into the search box, the first document found in the search results is the on you need to read.

Could be worth looking into as a potential saving..

Can I ask what rates others pay? Appologies if this has been discussed before...

The way I have read this seems to indicate that the legislation only applies to "houseboats" So it looks like wer'e getting screwed again!!!!

Why only houseboats, and if it only applies to them, why have all the marinas on the south coast (and I presume round the rest of the country) all changed the way they charge for electricity?

You don't think what? not sure I understand. That it is illegal? If the marina are charging 9p a unit, and they are being charged less than that, is that not illegal.

Yes,, have already read the bumf the last few times this conversation piece came up.

On the other hand if the marina really are being charged 9p a unit, then they are clearly being ripped off and are incompetent to boot

Was that perhaps your first six months? I understand that we are given 50 units free and then charged at 16p per unit, presumably to make up for the initial free units!

SO you do what everyone else does, when you leave the M?L marina (oops, nearly gave it away there!) you flog it off again at about £100 secondhand.

Why not just phone them and ask them to explain how pricing scheme meets new regulations about charging. Maybe they have changed, and you haven't had a bill under new scheme yet. If they are still using old scheme, point out it's probably illegal, and what are they going to do?

I have never really gone into it in detail, but I understand you have to be a 12 month berth holder to get the free units. I only use power for battery charging, power tools, power washer ect. I only berth for six months, then go upriver for the winter. When I was there last Friday I heard a couple of newbies being told that the marina charges no extra on top for leccy, so it may be worth checking out.
