Thanks for sharing and well done for not giving up!
Hi
In the original thread, you said that the outboard failed with serious problem, any comment on that? As in, is it of any value to the perps?
Full marks for a very good and up front description of the whole saga.
The outboard suddenly smelled hot, properly hot then hot seized (only a seagull) I think the impeller failed. A few minutes later after pouring a few buckets of water over it, I got another few seconds out of it...
I'd never try to cool an overheated engine like that. Very likely to crack something.
It's great to have everything in photos. Whenever I do something which turns out to be inadvisable I never have a camera to hand .... or the inclination to use one. :ambivalence:

A very candid and honest post if I may say so.
Any more on the ID of the thieves? I don't suppose the police are interested?

To put this in context, here in Southampton we have an estuary fed by several rivers, most obviously, the glorious Hamble, the Test, and our neck of the woods, the Itchen. Upriver of the Itchen are several bridges, and just upstream of Northam bridge is a conglomeration of derelicts and barely floating wrecks. In the last month they have proliferated to the point where they are nudging up against a marina.... These boats are all inhabited. They are rented out to drug addicts mostly. I do not wish to risk banning again by posting about an nationality or ethnic group in a derogatory manner. Let us merely say the whole lot is run by someone Eastern European who is charging the drug addicts in question rent for these boats. These people, regardless of how we may feel for them, are a problem, the river is starting to resemble a boat scrapyard. Today we witnessed another old mastless yacht being towed down there at the very time we were waterside being told more about this by a concerned large business operating on the river. They have been previously tasked to remove vessels by the local council because they impinged on a private residence on the shoreline. The council are not motivated to do anything because it will cost, so the brunt is being borne by honest boat owners.
