Yes but... When people or magazines are comparing anchors they are generally in the same weight bracket, but what if you based it on what you could buy at a certain price point. Is a MUCH heavier Delta better, worse or the same as a smaller new wave anchor. What factor to apply to weight versus shape?

There are other factors as well ...

What is your typical anchoring ground like ? Sand, Mud, Weed, Rocks etc.

Two of those conditions will have your Delta and Rocna failing dismally regardless of weight.

I'm old school and I like weight plus a good 'fluke' ....

I changed from a 15kg Delta to a 15 kg Rocna. In many respects I would say there is little difference between them . Where the Delta let me down was in a soft mud seabed and very strong wind. I would expect the Rocna to hold in such conditions.
I would think that doubling the weight of the Delta, or more probably increasing its area by a good deal, would improve its holding considerably, maybe to be as good as that of the smaller Rocna.

Thank you Vyv. I looked it up again. Jimmy Green will sell you a 40kg Delta for £450 and a 20kg Rocna for £470. If the difference is only marginal, then there would be no point in having the extra weight on the bow.

I can’t recall the examiners names, Fearsome old codgers, looked like they averaged out about 103. All relative I suppose I probably will be older than they were now.

Went to Glasgow for Mates it was closer to home.

I did all mine at Plymouth.

Funny thing happened couple years ago. I rec'd an invitation on FB from a lady ... didn't recognise so I sent a request back for info. Turned out to be one of the Girlfriends I had when Cadet back in mid 70's.

Shortly after I had to go to London to discus with a client - so stayed over longer and took train down to Plymouth and met her.

Brilliant day together ... remembering all the stunts and times. Later my Russian Wife and I went to her 60th B/day party in Plymouth ... still today great friends .............

As did the foredeck party and the engine room squad! Very nice example of good teamwork born of much practice.

Makes a nice contrast with the other bit of less good Norwegian seamanship!
