Are there any Shipman 28 owners here? I would like to know where your fuel vent is as mine is in the gunnell which is where the water drains off on deck, and i think this is letting water in my diesel tank so am having the location changed to inside the cockpit, anyone else have to do this????

I've seen a couple of these: in both the fuel tank was high up within the forward end of the port cockpit locker: the vent was taken to the outer side of the cockpit coamng, just forward of the port sheet winch. Neither seemed to have a problem with water in the fuel.

Here are a cople of photos: one from the inside, showing position of tank (note vent to left of filler pipe)

And one from the outside, showing vent in coaming and filler cap, adacent to winch.

Mine's a 1973 model. She is fitted with a large (Much bigger than the one pictured), quadrant shaped fuel tank to the rear of the aft cockpit bulkhead to starboard. this vents outboard through the cockpit coaming to stbd, well aft. Regards, Mike.

Fancy that - My boat on a YBW forum. With regards the pictured vent - we have not had any snags with water contamination, all seems ok thus far. I have to say it is about the only thing that has not gone wrong!

You will all be glad to know that the boat looks much nicer now. Since buying the boat much work has gone to restoring her, although if there are any Shipman owners on the East Coast, I would be very keen to swap notes on a few things. Our 1974, Swedish boat has had her trim tab removed and no amendments made to the rudder, thus we suffer from dreadful weather helm. We seem to be forever reefing sails, and thus dampening the lively spirit within.

Any ideas much welcome!
