Congrats on your new boat. Hope you have many happy memories aboard.
Since everyone is offering advice on getting to grips with handling let me wade in with some irreverent advice. You can scratch your boat as much as you like but it's hard to regain the admiral's trust if you lose it when she's handling the fenders against that brand spanking new Azimut. When things go wrong I've learnt it always helps to call encouragement. Funnily enough it improves my boat handling too 
i.e. relax, fenders are great and great fender handlers are to be treasured. All else comes in time
