I had a copy of Shrimpy on my bookshelf when I set off from Wales. Anytime I had doubts about having enough experience or enough boat I would read a chapter.

My favorite story from Shrimpy is how he cooked himself some comfort food after a Biscay? storm, chips on primus stove in a biscuit tin held between his feet in the cockpit.

There is .pdf version out on the net.

Thanks for resurrecting that, an interesting read. At one time the books were highly collectable & very pricey, but they are now available for free download.

Thanks for the info about free download. I had a copy of his book but as usual I loaned it out and it never came back. Will download as I would love to read again.
Another great early circumnavigation although in a bigger boat (32ft) was completed by 20 years old Dwight Long in his boat Idle Hour. There are some copies on Amazon. It's a great read and we should not forget these pioneers who sailed small boats with none of the equipment which modern sailors seem to find so necessary.

what about copywrite is webby allowing non payment

I don't think anyone is writing anything down it's all in digital format, or did you mean copyright, which are the rights to produce copies?

There may be an issue with pursuing a claim;
Only the owner, or his exclusive licensee can bring proceedings in the courts

It is unlikely that Shane created any exclusive licensee rights.

others here bitch about open cpn charts & copyright issues[/QI
I am sure that you are right but I think Shane Acton was cut from different cloth to the people who nowadays seem to make a profession out of sailing. I think he would be very happy just knowing that people were still reading and maybe being inspired by his adventures.
