Shall I complain or just accept it has got to be like this...

My visits there gave the impression that not a few of the boats are livaboard.

Correct - there are a fair few livaboards, including a mate of mine who has been complaining like mad about the state of the place. Apparently there has been a deterioration since a new marina manager took post....

Hi All, I thought I'd pop an email over to the Head Office email address last night and it looks like Premier are taking this very seriously which bodes well. I've had a response from the Head of Marketing who has thanked you all for bringing this to their attention and has given assurances that the situation in Brighton will be investigated thoroughly.

Vandy, Premier's CEO will call you at some point today

cheers Gary

Thanks All - I spoke to a gentleman who said he is the CEO of the premier marinas over the phone- We had a short conversation and knowing he is dealing with this is reassuring that what we experienced isn't what Premier Marinas want to offer. As well as the kind apology, their marketing manager has offered some free visitor stays for us to experience Premier marinas - It's a kind offer, but with my job I don't often get to do long distance cruising so knowing the issue will be dealt with, is a positive message and sufficient....

It's a shame though - the leisure marine industry in the UK has loads of potential - But sometimes it is forgotten that the participants in this industry who clean their boat with a toothbrush do pay attention to details, and issues I mentioned can be a complete put off....

The dog mess is down to owners ,dogs should be on leads at all times in marinas, some people let their dogs off and whrn its dark they cant se where the dog poo,s yes i take my dog to our marina and stick to rules also our marina does supply dog bins for poo .

Pleased to to hear that you got a response from Premier - I still haven't had an answer from my email 10 days ago and doubt I ever will. Prior to being mooring at Berthon, I was in Premier Marinas for 10 years so they certainly know how to look after customers - Update - I have received an email from Pete Bradshaw - CEO of Premier - have checked Companies House and he is.

We were moored in Brighton for several years as it was easy access from home in Kent. In the mid 2000's it was a great place to be but then there was a noticeable decline in everything. I could bore everyone with lists but everything got worse. The final straw came when our finger mooring broke and they fastened it with a ratchet strap, but this was removed after a week or so as it was a trip hazard! Still no move to a new finger. Incredible. A few years ago we moved to Gosport. That week in August the manager said we could go on G or H (I forget now) they called it the Brighton pontoon because that week alone they had several boats transfer from Brighton.
The decline was so obvious with very little money spent on anything that I just assumed they were running it into dereliction with the eventual aim of filling it in and turning the whole place into a rabbit warren of flats and tower blocks. That would be far more lucrative than mooring fees! It has to be something like that because no company could run anything so badly for so long unless it was deliberate, surely.
I hear what people have said about apologies and proposed improvements but I would not expect anything to change as it has been in decline for years. Still I hope it does improve for all the good people still based there.
ps. There has been a shortage of trolleys for years. There used to be about twenty round the back waiting repair, (along with dozens of broken finger pontoons floating in the inner harbour) but they never were repaired! I used to tell them in the office we would throw a pontoon party if we ever found a trolley!

I have just had a very pleasant call from Pete Bradshaw - he was very apologetic and no question that he and his fellow directors are focused on sorting out the issues at Brighton.

Just so Premier do not get too much of a bashing, we've been at Port Solent since 2007 and the facilities, staff and services could not have been better - shame to hear about Brighton but sounds like an isolated case.

I agree, we have been at Swanwick for three years and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Don't get me wrong, there are a few things that need sorting due to the work going on at the moment but if you speak to Martin or Mark (or Phil previously) they are on the case straight away.

what's that got to do with it?

Mobo average 4 -6 persons, saily boat maybe a bit more , sunsail half a village. My point being that facilities can get bit hard when the occupancy increases. Port Solent and gosport are superbly run so is berthon based on my experience (smile moody Nick) a lot others not so good but we all have bad days. I am hoping to stay at Brighton in the next month so it will be very interesting.

Apart from average yacht occupancy being more like 4, I agree with everything else.

There are loads of combined issues but they all depend on people. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the roles, they don't all turn up for work even when they have promised they would. This puts pressure on others like the proverbial domino effect. The trick is to avoid the customers being exposed to what is going on behind the scenes!

It's the responsibility of the marina to ensure they have sufficient resource to run their business correctly.

The general impression I have from this thread is that the lack of housekeeping and attention to detail seems to have been over a prolonged period.

Am really surprised that no one from Premier has posted on this thread, I know Gary has been in communication with them and the OP had had a call from their CEO but if it was my company's name that was being discussed in a negative way I would be issuing a statement detailing my actions to resolve the issue.

Come on Premier!

FWIW we stayed at Swannick recently and had a lovely stay, didn't use the facilities as they were being updated but staff were really helpful so clearly looks like Issues at Brighton are not reflective of the way Premier run their business

I have been with Premier in Gosport since C&N days and I am sad to say that standards are slipping downwards every year. Most of the old hands are gone to be replaced with youngsters ,mainly female who have no idea about running a marina. The management changes at least once a year and appears to be only interested in cost reductions. There is now a noticable exit of long standing berth holders from the marina and an increasing influx of commercial yachts and fishing boats. The Boat House Cafe building which houses toilet facilities has become dilapitated to the extent that the door to the facilities no longer closes and the toilets are mostly filthy. The main showers and toilets have recently been closed for refurbishment and Permier have provided a portacabin with 3 showers and 3 bogs to cater for a marina with over 400 berths ! In addition the car park which should be for the exclusive use of berth holders is mainly occupied by locals who have managed to crack the security barriers that control entry. The barrier to the marina is frequently out of action and in any case anyone can bypass the security gate and gain acess via the ladder at the boat lifting crane. Time to consider a move unless things are radically changed.
