I too have a Sestrel that I can't get an age on. My research shows they usually have Henry Brown & Sons and a number on the compass. Mine just says Sestrel. It appears to be in a 'C. Plath' binnacle, best my research tells me and it has the little chamber with tiny kerosene lamp to illuminate the compass. I cannot find a single compass that has the exact same face as mine but I was able to find a few binnacles that are the same. Any experts out there?

I have a very similar one...The dial has different lettering/typeface, but the rest is identical.

Mine came onboard my 1966 ex-Royal Navy Fairey Huntress and I believe it was fitted to the vessel at fit-out.

I could do with finding someone who can service it as there is a large bubble in the fluid.

Straight out of an old Ships Lifeboat ...... haven't seen one for years ....

We used to play a trick on Cadets with them .... ask them to sort out the compass because it was 180 deg out for viewing.

Some never could never figure it out .... but many finally realised that you flipped BOTH axis gimbals together and then you can view compass correctly.
