I am trying to figure out a way to "semi-liveaboard" next season.
I am currently at Dunstaffnage, which is a lovely place and I have no problems at all with it as such.
However, as the drive is 4 hours, I never used Rosally nearly as much as I should have last year - add to this that I am overseas for 1/2 my time +.

I love the idea of living aboard for most of my 'shore leave' and keeping on the move. My work gives me a 28 days away/ 28 days home schedule (though in reality this is @ 30 days away/ 26 days home when you include travel time).

Mrs P is not entirely sold on the idea of me galavanting around on my own (but I am) but she is very tolerant and I am sure I could work out a compromise.

Realistically, I imagine I could negotiate up to 20 days 'free' time on my time home.
Anyway, my concern at the moment is arranging somewhere for my boat to be kept on my month or so overseas. I would prefer to keep her somewhere different each time and travel around in between times. I would be single handing most of the time and would be happy to leave her on moorings on my time away.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

PS - I am going to cross post this on the Lounge/ PBO forums too. I hope you don't mind but I need as much advice as I can get. I will remove it from 2 if there are objections.

can I suggest google earth

I am currently slowly sailing around the uk

google earth is wonderful for finding potentiallly interesting and viable places to stay

then find the local boat yards

my rent has varied between £15 a week _at the moment on the Alde

to £10 a month on the medway

mind you I don't have one of those awkward great sticky down things hanging under the boat

prizes available for those who can tell me what on earth they are used for

How do you do it? 30 days away working then you plan to have 20 days away on the boat? so out of 60 days the misses will have the pleasure of your company for 10 days. That is quite a compromise have you told her about it yet?,. Mine is annoyed when I have 10 days away out of 60.

Hope it works out for you.

You're biggest problem (apart from surgical removal of the axe from your head that the Puddockess will most assuredly put there!) isn't just leaving the boat,it's leaving the car,and getting back to it.
Here's a plan:
car Dunstaffnage,go sailing
leave boat Kyleakin( Highland harbours check costs:cool:
,go back for car or get it brought to you.

Next trip you have huge choice of sailing destinations North South or West

Base yself there for say 2 months or plockton Gairloch Ullapool

August come down to the CLYDE, September/ October sheltered sailing till lay up.

Now dae Ah hiv tae wipe yer erse 'n' a' ?:D

then you have my sympathy

To be more accurate, Scotch refers to something that can be bought such as whisky, salmon or.........politicians. :D

I have decided that the adjective is 'Scottish' but I will allow you to use 'Scotch' as a noun or as a verb, as normal with the English language there is one exception, namely the Scotch pie.

That sounds like a reasonably sensible idea Ludd. Love the Gairloch area.
I once got a dose (in my yoof) off a slapper from Ayr who was working at the big hotel there ....

If I can't be trusted to visit Gairloch without coming back with a beach party in my shorts, I can't see Greece being a viable option unsupervised !

Mind you, my mind has begun ticking over on the idea :D and I an VERY tempted.
