This product has been recommended to restore badly stained/cared for teak on an 18 month old boat, ive done a search here and found no posts on it,has anyone used this product? all advice greatfully recieved.
I don't think its their product - but it is a sealer-style product. Some comments here. I've not used it so can't comment - I am very happy with the one I currently use.
no, semco not their product. Not as good as wessex imho, but they all do something. Not sure i wd take much if any advice from uk boat cleaners - boat cleaning is not taken quite as seriously as in med and can't be - the uk water pressure is rubbish for starters.
Semco is a very good product made in the USA , but Wessex as a cleaner is easier and Imho quicker. As for the sealer it is excellent, however even the Clear tone or Natural will alter the Patina of the Teak slightly. It lasts well ( not good from a valeters point of view) and can stop the teak from getting Wine / Curry stained /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Cleans of at the start of the new season easily using WCF ready for re- treatment.
BUT, I would agree also with Rickp and tcm, the Wessex product is the best I've used for cleaning, very quick, very easy from an albow grease point of view, but it's also important to know what you are trying to achieve!
Some like their teak bright and straw coloured as per boat show, or emulated by, 'lino' artificial plastics, others prefer a clean but silvering, it's your choice.
I have seen Semco used too heavily and it turns the black strips yellow and looks totally false. imho.
After cleaning!!! If you follow the instructions on the tin, either brush or use a cloth, then wipe off excess, after two coats the teaks looks bright, natural, with good colour stripe contrast and lasts well.
I will certainly use it again as I prefer the colour. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

have used semco both sealant and cleaner. I find the cleaner superb. v easy to use and brings up the teak like new. Did not have any problems with black caulking going yellow at all as others suggested. pretty hard on th e teak and I would only use it every other season. The sealant I find less effective, and seems to go powdery/chalky towards the end of the season and definitely doesn't last a whole year as claimed. Unfortunately you can't really reseal without stripping off remains of last coat with the 2 part cleaner, so I might desist with it when I have used up the large tin I have.
