I have new Selva Madeira 50 hp outboard with long leg. It comes with some kind of manual hydro pneumatic tilt with shock absorber and anti tilt control lever. Everything works fine except when I put the engine in reverse the force kicks the motor nearly into tilt position and back again, even though the tilt control lever is in locked position. I tried to put the motor in tilt position by hand when it is supposed to be locked down and it didn’t need very much force to rip the engine up. Is it supposed to be like this or am I doing something wrong ?

I had a diesel outboard with a manual pneumatic lift, and that had a fixed lock to hold the engine in place when going astern, I now have a hydraulic lift(much better) and that relies on the hydraulics to hold it in position when going astern.

As the outboard is new, don't tinker with it.
