A mate of mine has a Nic 32 that he wantsto sell. The boat is registered under Spanish Flag,in general are you "PUT OFF" a boat for sale abroad or would you expect a good price reduction to warrant travelling to see the boat.Interesated in opinions on this problem.

Maybe of interest to someone who wants to sail in that area - we sold our boat in Alicante and it's still there.
The Spanish registration is a bonus if a local wants the boat as the cost and work required to get one is considerable. Prospective Spanish buyers often use the registration costs as a bargaining argument.
We were UK pt1, new owner is British. :D

Doubt that anyone would travel from UK to buy in Spain. There are currently 10 listed for sale on Yachtworld, 8 in UK, one in Spain and one in Italy. So little incentive for UK buyer to go to Spain. However, as already noted Spanish registration is a selling point for local buyer, and that type of boat is probably rare in Spain. Good or bad thing - not the ideal boat for the area but could be for a Spanish person wanting to go ocean voyaging.

I've bought boats overseas before (a Carter 33 from Rhodes and a Westerly Discus from Sibari).

They were both 'bargains' and we sailed both back to the UK. Now, of course, by the time we'd got them home, they'd lost their bargain status, but we considered the cost of getting home to be 'usage' rather than 'purchase' cost.

So, yes, I'd consider buying abroad again....but the boat would have to be much cheaper than if she were in the UK.

I sell boats occasionally on brokerage overseas but they do tend to need some bargain status are be particularly sought after.

Thanks,The price he has is to my mind way over the top but he seems to think he should get his money back on his purchase!!!At present the Spanish marketwould seem to be flat so I reckon he will be still sailing this coming summer.Best plan as suggested would be a serious Spanish sailer who would value and make use of a Nic32.The story is a lesson in getting your wife fully onboard before launching out and buying a serious offshore yacht when a small cruiser for sheltered waters would have been so much better.

I know someone in a similar position, an awful lot of wishful thinking going on and doesn't really listen, what can you do?
