I was thinking about asking them for a passage plan for my trip from Rotterdam to Hull in summer ,,, I hear the local elements on Leman Bank are terrible these days !

Hmmm, it is quite a sensible question for someone who hasn't done it before as only a few years ago I too didn't know what I didn't know, if you know what I mean. There are a few tips we can give that will help him (including where the dodgy local elements are!)...
Off the top of my head:
- visitor's license
- where to get fuel
- timings & speed
- good/bad overnight places
- good/bad bars (probably linked to the above
)- which forumites to wave to
But I am at work... and I am sure there are people better placed to help him out
