Seaworthyness/comfort

Re: Seaworthyness/Seakinliness

Theres nowt wrong wth a MAB,im going to get one .I ve had a big boat and from my experience they are too much hard work for week ending and get used as a cottage, nothing wrong with that but not sailing. My ideal boat would be 30 ft no engine no electrics,no worries!

Re: Seaworthyness/Seakinliness

If thet's a Gaff Ketch I'm a Dutchman's Uncle. One too few masts, no booms, where do you fix the mainsheet? Where are the genoa winches? It doesn't even have any engines so it's a floating bungalow not even a MOBO.....

Re: Seaworthyness/Seakinliness

Id also worry about the Pine deck on plywood and Pine everything outside but a nice Teak hatch and Teak inside . IMHO It should be Teak outside and Pine ( if you have too) Inside . Im sure if it was any quality Pine it would have been shouted about in the advert .

Re: Seaworthyness/Seakinliness

The topmast has gone, indicating the mainmast may be weak. Either way the rig is too small to drive the vessel well. The greenhouse is a weak point for breaking seas. If a green sea broke a window, the next would probably flood the boat. Basically she's an aquatic summerhouse with an engine. The hull construction is sound enough tho' if it's in good condition.

Milne originally designed her as a steam boat.......without that huge wheelhouse...he knew what he was doing. It couldn't carry enough coal for offshore work so it's probably only good for coastal cruising at best.

Re: Seaworthyness/Seakinliness

Ketch rigged vessels are good for blue water cruising, smaller individual sails are easier to handle. Cutter Ketches are even better. You can rig a lot of canvas on a ketch....mizzen staysails are often 80% of the size of the main...and there are a lot of good seakindly hulls around in wood too. Keep looking.

I'm interested in the wakering, what is its name and could you get the owner to contact me? I own a wakering 33, JADE, I'm wondering where is Ester Ruth and Crackerjack... I've found the owner of the Surita, renamed now.
