This one has to be the best reply yet. I really don't even know what to say to such dismissive self importance. Meaningless? By who's standard? Yours?
I wonder if he meant that as a lighthearted comment.

In many ways, everything about sailing is a meaningless project. A lot of people think life itself is a meaningless project. It doesn't stop us getting on with it (life or sailing) and having some jolly good times.

Could well have been and if there was a miscommunication then my bad. It didn't come across that way though. I'm teaching my son how to "make a plan" if its ever needed. so indirectly the lessons he learns from this project could well save a life someday. If he is ever i need of repairing an old radio out at sea or in the mountains its not quite so practical to simply order a new one online. I would have thought the meaning behind this was obvious.

.. just to add. I used to sail with my late stepfather as a child in Durban. he died a few years ago. My memories of handling sheets for him are anything but meaningless.

Unfortunately local node 5196 is taking a holiday. Maybe the keeper has gone north Haggis Stalking. Can call CA from here via IRLP when Haggis Stalker returns.

Still struggling to DM but I monitor CA frequently being my most reliable repeater. Also AS but CA comes through at home.

I thought the meaning of life is known, courtesy of Douglas Adams. It's 41 approx.

Hayden, I had a copy of the manual that I posted to a friend of Gary Shaw. If you PM him he should be able to copy relevant pages for you. I don't think the manual contained any details on setting up the crystals but with the right test equipment it should be fairly easy to check the tuning.
