I am adding rl70 repeater. I have a seatalk link into my st60 autohelm which handily has a second unused seatalk socket. My st60 is on all the time as the red line seatalk plug has 13v on it. I have always been concerned that this is not ideal as the unit is permanently on with battery on.
Firstly: It has always worked but can someone confirm that this is normal set up? ie seatalk carries its own 13v supply on the red line.
Secondly, if I link the rl70 repeater to it via seatalk, assume the repeater will also be live so do I need to connect the rl70 power lead or will this also be powered off of the seatalk system.
Thirdly, if that is the situation then will the on off switch on the rl70 still operate as I assume that is linked to the dedicated power in socket.
Thought this repeater connection was going to be straightforward but getting more confused every time I look at it despite reading loads of previous threads on this subject. Any help greatly appreciated.

1) Yes
2) Small Seatalk devices can be powered from the Seatalk cable, but some high power ones (tiller pilots and plotters for example) need their own power supply. As the RL70 is large it probably needs its own power supply.
3) I expect the RL70 will need its own power supply and the on/off button will work as expected.
