... is it me or the GOOGLE style new search function on this forum is less useful than waht we used to have before? Am I missing something?

I take it you haven't read one of the many other threads on the subject, describing how the search function was taken out when the moderators asked if we wanted a forum that carried on stalling, or one without a search function, and it was voted for a forum that functioned. So the fact that we have a search function at all is a bit of a bonus. New forum software is being developed, probably to be deployed later this year, and will have a better search function in it probably.
