We're looking into buying a used 2008 SC35. We love the space inside, and the overall look of the boat. What are your opinions on the boat? What are the things to be careful of?

I have no direct experience of the boat but in 3 years, well over 200 have been sold, which is pretty impressive. I have not heard of any problems, and there's not many on the market, so would assume it is OK. It does, evidently have a very good sea hull.

I own a 2008 SC35 and love it. Being only my second boat (first was a Searay 275), I have not much to compare it to but love the feeling of open space in the cockpit.

I like being outside and the sliding roof is excellent, giving you feeling of being outside whilst closing in 5 seconds if it's cold or raining.

Not sure where you are based, but you are more than welcome on board if you are near the North West.

No Doubt Moody will have had his sea trial now, will have signed up and be guzzling the champers by now, another sc35 owner soon.

I must admit ive never been a sealine fan, but after looking at the 35 and 38 at the show id be tempted with a 38, after this summer its not been that much fun on a flybridge!

I disliked these when they came out.I then had a look at them again this year and was very impressed with the 35 and thought it was good value.1st time ive been on board.

i too am looking to scale down from 43 flybridge as the kids arnt interested any more so dont need the space.I need less draft as we are in christchurch and the 43 on shafts is scraping it in anything but high water.

anyone for a nice flybridge?

like you I had a look at the SC35 a couple of years ago, i was not struck on the shape but the accommodation looked great for a 35 footer, at that time i had a 50 foot flybridge.

i managed to sell my flybridge earlier this year, as i used it less and less. It became a comfortable second home but a bind to go boating due to there mainly being just two of us.

In two weeks time i take delivery of my new SC35 and cant wait.....

Check for leaky portholes and windows, some SC35's I have worked on do suffer from this problem. Also lockers drain into bilge pump boxes rather than through hull fittings, so if pump box fails or gets clogged up you will have waste water going into your bilges.

As Paul suggested I sea trialled one yesterday, and went onto the boat show to pay the balance of the deposit.

The boat handled really well, and went well enough with a pair of 260's (we got 29 knots flat out, and a cruise of about 24, although the customer boat we had borrowed did have a bit of a dirty bottom)

The roof seems a real pleasure to use, and you'll no doubt be aware of the accomodation and space in the cockpit.

The only issue that I have heard of is that the early ones were prone to taking water in through the engine room vents. There was a modification for this so you might want to check out if the ones your looking at have had this done.

I have heard of this issue as well and I am interested in what the modification is as I am also looking at the possibility of upgrading to a 35 (2008 model). I have noticed that the 2010 version has different engine vents altogether.

If anyone knows what the modification is and how to tell if it has been done I would be very interested to hear??!!??

We had a 2008 SC35 (its now for sale in Ipswich with a broker as we have now upgraded) and it had the old forward facing vents that can (and do) direct water spray into the engine bay. I cant think why they designed it like that. Anyway, we had the mod fitted and all was fine after that. The mod was a pair or glass fibre deflectors in the engine bay that trapped and channelled the water back out.

Did you have to pay for the mod or was it something that Sealine fitted free of charge?

Sealine fitted free of charge. It was only ever a fine spray, so even the boats without them are not in any danger.

I should also add that in 'normal' conditions, say an F3-4 with an 'average' chop, there was no issue at all. It was only when the sea got really snotty and confused.

Just been reading your quote above - that's a bit worrying - I am thinking of buying a new Sc35, do you know if they've knocked that problem on the head yet?
