Any comments thinking of one as they seem good value, whats the long term view, do they fall apart with serious usage.
I have a princess 385 can they cope as well as this.

Dont take any notice of hlb; he only likes boats made in Plymouth. The 450 is a good boat with a load of accomodation and a good hull. They dont fall apart any more or less than other production boats if you buy a good one

Azimut 42 or 46 both nice boats well built typical Italian styling normally powered with Cats no major problems with hulls etc.Would still consider staying with Princess don`t know your budget but depending on same you could consider moving up from the 385 to the 410 built on the same layup as the 385 built up to 1994 or then the 420 or 440 later models although the layup on later boats changed not for the better I would say but that is just my preference.

I'm not sure with regard to your question as I am in a similar position as you, looking for a 3 cabin boat and keep coming back to a few boats with similar price tags:-
Sealine 450
Princess 440 (although slightly more expensive)
Sealine F44
Fairline Phantom 43

The main thing that puzzles me though is why is a 1999 F44 around the same price as a 1992 450? Is the F44 not as good a spec or not built as well?
All I can say, as somewhat of a novice is that everyone I've spoken to, Dealers, Agents, Brokers etc, puts the 3 manufacturers in the following order:-
1.Princess
2.Fairline
3.Sealine
and this is normally followed by the comment "you get what you pay for".
Sorry I can't help too much more with the 450.

Do you mean the F43 rather than the F44 as the F44, until very recently, was a 2 (sleeping) cabin boat? Anyway the 450 is a substantially larger boat than either the F43/F44 which accounts for the price difference
Of all of them, if you dont mind doing without the aft cabin but still want 3 cabins, the Princess 440 is a really good boat with an excellent hull and still relatively modern looking inside and out. The Sealines, particularly the 450, have a distinctive design which is very clever but the styling puts some people off
You should be able to get a good 95/96 Princess 440 for about £170-180k after negotiation and many come with goodies like aircon and big gennie. Any P440 priced much over £200k is silly money

Agreed I think the Princess 440 or possibly a Fairline Squadron 43 is what I am aiming for but there doesn't seem to be many 3 cabin Squadrons on the market at the moment.
As far as price there are a few 440's on the market in the Med at the moment with not too many hours around the 160-170K mark which seems a fairly realistic price. I won't be buying until September so if any are still hanging around or people are chopping in after this season there may be a few bargains to be had. We hope.

Hi, I have had 2 Fairlines, both very good boats. When I wanted to move up to circa 45 feet I looked at and trialled numerous Princess options, 440, 460 and 45 as well as the Squadron 43 and the more recent Phantoms, 43 and 46's. I dismissed the Sealine years ago, having been moored alongside one once in Cowes and watched their for'd cleat ride up and down two inches out of the decking as the boats moved on passing wakes. Most perturbing. Anyway, I settled on the Azimut 46 (3 cabins) and have been well happy. Good luck regardless, circa 45 foot boats are so much more fun.
