All of a sudden the seagulls have taken a liking to my cockpit canopy, to the extent of having pecked holes in it!

Never happened before, what has changed? Rapid advice welcomed........

and wishing y'all A Very Happy Cruising Year (apart from any gulls online)

I like to use the junk mail cd's that we are deluged with. I hang them on some string over the boom.

The flashing as they turn in the sun seems to continue to frighten the gulls off. They clatter in the wind as well, which adds to the scare index. This has worked for a couple of seasons now so it would appear that the gulls do not become familiarised as they do with the giant owls that they seem to love to perch on!!

a great mystery

why some boats, despite plastic owls, strings of cds etc. become guano magnets while others (like mine so far) stay clear. could try the trick i use to keep my dog off the kitchen worktops: tabasco sandwiches!!
