I'm about to restore this boat! It's in bad shape! I'm new to this all so advice is well needed,
I'm aware it's a sailing boat, however can I remove sales and fit a outboard motor.

I'm not sure what you've bought. The white one in the photo isn't a sailing boat, the orange one behind it is. We could be starting a long way back in this conversation.

[QUOTE="Catalina36, post: 7179282,
What would make you say it isnt a sailboat? Out of curiosity?
I've got to trace it back somehow, it was a salvage boat, came with mast etc.
I'm new to this, so by all means tell me all you know,
I restore cars, trains, planes lol not boats.

If it has a mast and sails then its a sail boat
You know what they say. " If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it probably is duck"

Keels will make it very unhandy as a motor boat and if you remove them you will probably have to add some ballast internally

I'm not sure if this is a wind up. The white boat in the foreground is a motor boat with a V hull. If it came with a mast you might like to indicate where it was fixed and how it was held aloft. Did it come with a keel too? How about a rudder?

Looks like a Seafarer 18 centerplate yacht designed by Alan Buchanan.

It could be restored but the cost would be 3 times more than it will ever be worth.

Do you think??? I dont know if I'm honest,
Any advice on what it is would be great,
And to be honest it's not being restored to make money, its just a hobby I have, but 1st time with a boat

No it's not a wind up,
It has a keel, but no rudder assuming it was broken or what ever

You cant see the hull

What you can see looks just like the back of a small single chine plywood hull which could easily be a sailboat hull........ I'd say the rudder pintle is a clue that it was a sailing boat
The mast is in the picture too

Going by the one small photo, if the hull is fibreglass then it’s an extensive rebuild project that will cost more in materials alone than buying a tatty but basically seaworthy boat - but some people might get satisfaction from.

If the hull is plywood then it’s a heap of inconveniently-located firewood.

So by what I know (very little) is its about 17ft grp hull (no damage or blister) with timber top sides, has a keel buy no rudder, the mast is in the picture, photo looks worse than it is it's just the cockpit and cabin that's rot, like I said previously I'm not trying to restore to make money, I restore as a hobby, I am thankful for your advise though, in a fish out of water here

Does it have an iron keel bolted to the bottom about 9inches deep with slot in it for the hingeing centerplate?

If so it's defo a Seafarer 18.I owned one some years ago. They sail quite well would make an ok ish motorboat with an 8 or 10 hP outboard on the back but yachts and mobos are designed differently it would never be a proper motor boat.
