whats the best compound to bed in the new seacocks on a fibreglas hull, whats the best way of filling the holes left from the previous seacock, where the mounting bolts are in a different alignment to the new seacock. I intend to use a mounting block as reccommended by 'Blakes',perhaps 1/2 inch marine ply,is it better to 'glas' this in place first or just bed it with the same compound used for the seacocks

Epoxy in the wooden pad and fill the old holes with epoxy. Also paint the inside of the hole in the hull and plywood pad with epoxy. It is better to taper the outer edge of the ply pad so that you do not create hard spots. Bed the fitting with sicaflex.

The old seacock hole will be a parallel hole, use a course file and open out the outside (sea) side of the hole so that the epoxy filler will form a V shaped plug. Use sikoflex to bed new fitting as detailed in previous message

first ensure you use only 'epoxy resins' as the bonding is much (up to 40%) stronger. If the old bolt holes are around 1/4 inch just re-drill them to make a taper at each end and fill with epoxy resin and filler mix. If much larger you may have to grind them out and re glass them. If the seacock is exposed in any way, consider glassing in the block to ensure better support and no movement, in any event the section of marine ply should be treated to prevent rot and if possible a layer of glass over it to protect it. Make sure the sealing compound you select is acid free particularly if the fitting is bronze. Happy Sailing.....
