Yes sorry, I wasn't very clear..brass not good. If I remember yachting monthly had a campaign a while back to try and get some sort of safety standard introduced after SOME boat builders were using domestic valves in new production boats.

How does he know they are brass? As Vyv will tell you it is almost impossible to tell the composition of the metal by observation. They are all the same looking, although some newer DZR valves do have an identifier on them. However older DZR, which are fine in a marine environment, do not. There is no such thing as a "marine" ball valve. Both DZR and plain brass are used in both domestic plumbing and in boats.

If he had something like "have carefully inspected and found signs of dezincification, and recommend they be removed" then that would be sensible advice. As it is he is asking you to do something unnecessary in the short term. In fact I would be more worried about leaving just skin fittings in place as these are much more prone to dezincification if not bronze or DZR.

What can you do, I need my code , and he has the key, if his interpretation of the code rules say remove seacock not in use and cap what's left, so be it.
