My fridge on my boat is playing up.

As per YouTube, I bypassed the thermostat and, hey presto, fridge is working !

So I buy and fit a new thermostat. You’ve guessed it, still not working.

After some to and fro with my multi meter I found a resistor wired in line with the thermostat which is broken. I have removed the broken resistor and now things seem to be working OK. I’m sure the resistor was there for the reason.

Can anyone tell me what this resistor is for and if I can get away without using it ?
