Seacock handle turning, but not opening?

ps plumbers trick - if water is coming in - you will only screw a valve onto the hull fitment if the valve is in the open position. works even with cold water mains pressure on land. hopefully your seacock is not too deep.

(i have also changed seacocks by putting my thumb over the hull fitment on the inside, after unscrewing the old seacock. only 1-2 litres came in.)
When I changed a 1.5" valve in the water on my last boat, we jammed a piece of stainless steel into the through hull so it caught on the two little bumps in there. A put my mole grips on the stainless to hold the through hull, then my pal turned the seacock inside the boat with waterpump pliers. Once we had the seacock loose, without the through hull turning, we removed the file and taped a wooded bung in. We screwed on a new valve then did the same trick with the piece of stainless to tighten the valve. Worked fine but a bit nerve racking

Thanks. she's 17t and very stable upright so tilting over could be really hard. Also harbours and marinas in Spain are full of bureaucracy. It's not like the UK where people do as they wish drying out, using walls, trees or whatever. We seem to have a god given right to be at sea and use the sea in the same way the French and Spanish have a god given right to their long lunch break.

Frustratingly there is very little tide in this part of the world else I’d just dry out and do it.

Risking not getting done before tide comes back !!

I decided to add a speed log to a boat during low tide ... bilge keels on hard stone bed ...

Prepared all tools and log parts ... including hole cutter / drill.

As boat settled and water drained away - I started to cut the hole .... the GRP on that 1970's boat was solid and destroyed 3 ... yes 3 Hole saws .... and I ended up with two drill batts discharged and water rising ....
Luckily the hole saw had failed to go all way through ... so boat was safe ...
Decided to lift and finish job !!
