Sea fog question

Here on Hayling we have thick sea fog, it arrived mid afternoon when the air temp was just higher than the sea, now it's very thick and the sea temp is warmer than the air.

While I thought I understood the principle eg warm air on a cold sea this has confused me.

I hate fog. You set off from home in glorious sunshine and by the time you've walked to the boat you find yourself in a pea souper and unable to see the end of the pontoon and have to abandon before you've started.

Hoping to go to the IOW for supper tomorrow so hope it holds off.
