i am new to sail drives can anyone give me any help on how to check the oil level on the lower gear case. also where would i be able to get an oil pump to drain the oils. yanmar have not been that helpful. thanks.

i have the sd20 saildrive so can't be sure the info is correct but see if this works for yours:

the oil level check is done using the very short dipstick in the filler cap (remove, wipe, dip WITHOUT screwing home, then read.

the only way to drain oil is to dry out and remove the screw plug from the leg (you must also remove the filler cap to let air in. be very careful not to damage the O ring on the drain plug or fit a new one each time. it's easy to nip the O ring when re-fitting which allows water in and oil out.

thanks chris .it is a bit different ther is no dip stick in the lower leg just the upper gearbox so itis not the same when i slip the boat i can put the right amount in . Do you have to pump the engine oil out?
