What do we fancy food wise on the Saturday evening? Fowey Gallants has offered the following suggestions:-

1 - sit down meal (would need to be in two sittings if there are 60 of us)

2 - buffet

3 - hog roast

A vegetarian option available for each.

How likely is the 60? How many people who, in the depths of winter thought "that sounds like a brilliant trip" and put their names down, will in fact turn out to have boat trouble, work commitments, or double-bookings by the missus when the aspiration becomes a reality?

I freely admit to perhaps being one of them, but I did only ever claim to be a "possible" :)

Sit-down meal would be my top choice if we all fitted, but my bottom choice if we don't.

PRV is right... It looks like my crewman will have other commitments in Normandy around that D-Day weekend but I'm still a goer. I feel sure I'll be tucked out on the outside of the raft in my little 30 footer though :)

Food wise it will obviously depend on numbers. I LOVE a good hog roast but that can be expensive if the numbers don't materialise to spread the cost sufficiently. A buffet all together is a much better alternative than a sit-down meal in 2 waves IMHO.

Oh... and thank God no-one is actually organising this darned thing... that would be a 'mare... like herding cats :nonchalance:

Russ,
i've voted for a buffet.
its the most flexible option with late arrivals etc. and stands a better chance of not cocking the finances up.
I'd love ahoy roast but there are practicalities against it and you could lose a lot of money on it ?

I agree with those who have voted for a buffet - greater flexibility, less risk.

You can upgrade me from a possible to a probable but I'll be on my own - SWMBO is on singing duties that weekend.

From the responses so far I reckon we could get away with the sit down meal. I suppose I should give it a bit longer though.

Ow many on yer list now???

22, but I still haven't heard back from 12 boats, but I know some have two and three aboard. My guess is that we're looking at 40+. The buffet is getting good support, and I've received a number of messages from people saying that a buffet allows people to circulate meet more forumites than they would at a sit down meal.

I think it's safe to assume that the majority prefer the buffet option. Thanks to those who participated.
