Scroat arrested for theft

Just an update to this sorry tale, I received a letter from the witness care unit Southampton Central Police Station, (Mods, this is not libellous, it is a matter of public record, Carl Barry Birks is a convicted thief)

Carl Barry Birks, pleaded guilty to 4 offences,Criminal damage to property valued under £5000, Theft, including theft by finding,2 counts of make off without making payment.

The defendants guilty plea was taken into account when imposing sentence,

Committed to prison for 12 weeks suspended for 12 months, the defendant must comply with the following requirements within the supervision period of 12 months;

Attend appointments with the Responsible Officer or other person at such times and places as the officer says.

Carry out unpaid work for 180 hours within the next twelve months, this work will be supervised by the responsible officer.

To Pay surcharge of £80,
To Pay costs of £85 to the crown prosecution service,
To pay compensation of specified amount to the aggrieved

I was told on the phone if I want any compensation I have to take him to civil court at my expense.What really pisses me is, if I get done for speeding my fine would be more than that!

It does make you wonder about sentencing.

No doubt the little scroat is grinning from ear to ear. He "got away with it" is how he will view it. Hardly likely to deter him from doing it again, it will just make him more careful not to get caught.

And yes if you or I stole a tin of beans from Tesco we would probably end up in prison.

How do these two statements fit together? His sentence in the criminal case appears to already include paying you compensation.

(Probably at 50p per week... :( )

I'm just guessing, but I think the 2 x counts of "make off without making payment", are probably petrol, as they are two different dates 9th and 12th of May, the criminal damage and theft were on the 3rd of May the day my boat was broken into and robbed, so the people he stole the goods from (whatever it was) will be reimbursed to the cost of said goods.
