An alternative to satellite if you have good internet access is services like BBC iPlayer & tvcatchup which can be accessed from outside UK, do a forum search on "tvcatchup"...

UK TV chanels will not allow you to watch from outside the UK, including catchup, they can tell from your IP address where you are.

The way to go is to download Expatshield which diverts you through a UK server. Free version has some popup adverts but there's also a paid ad free version (we use free version). Watching live can be a pain due to slow streaming but most programs can be downloaded for either iplayer or Windows media player, I find the latter better quality. Even for playback, Expatshield needs to be running as the downloads check for permission.

I put up my own dish about 25 years ago (the old BSB system) and spent ages up a ladder getting the alignment spot on by trial and error. A fraction of a degree either way and the signal was lost. How do you keep the dish in alignment on a boat?

Richard
Having lived aboard last year I used a "camping set" sat system from Maplins; 12v decoder. All worked well. Surprisingly good signal, easy to find and keep in a Marina until the wind hit 30+kts when we rocked out....
used Dishpointer site to fine the direction.
