Have you got a chart plotter? If so put some way points on to follow the zig zag and stick to them. ASFAIK the bottom is not likely to shift much. If no plotter use traditional navigation. The final run parallel to shore is surprisingly close to. (assuming you're going south) At high water springs such as today, you can probably sail straight over it even with 2m draught but i wouldn't risk it. Saves a lot of time getting to my mooring in Mochras lagoon from south. Incidentally the beach on shell island is designated a nudist one.

A course round the causeway buoy is probably more direct when going to Aberystwyth as the direct line form it to Aber will take you through the gap in the patches reef. If you take the inshore passage, you'll have to go offshore again to miss the patches.
But your choice.

Cheers for that! useful info for bext time.... ended up largely acedemic as wind dropped and ended up on the hook at llanbedrog. yeah know what you mean about going out to the causway buoy but wind was fcast SE so thought ti try to get a better angle..... not sure there would have been much in it either way!
