There are some lovely beaches in the other side of the headland and some decent bays on the Cagliari side.

The marina has a small supermarket and a few restaurants. I have only been in season and I imagine it is dead in winter.

There is a small town. No idea about public transport but you will have to get to Cagilari anyway so you will need a rental car.

In season it is expensive. I assume annual contract cheap.

We based ourselves for a year in Alghero. Really nice town and good flight connections.
If you stop there go as far into the town marinas as you can. The outer pontoons (which seem to be individually managed and you will be met by one of them wanting your business as you approach the harbour) have huge swells.
Enjoy

In general Sardinia is relatively cheap for annual contracts and the waters are generally not crowded. The exception is Olbia which is very busy and from what I can tell have more real super yachts ( as in very large not just over 24m) than anywhere else. They are everywhere.

Fuel is more expensive than Spain, but it does vary a lot so call around. 10 cents difference on 3000 its is worth a small trip or early refuel

The mistral is a real issue on the west cost and to a lesser extent the south. It can really blow, but it is well forecast and lasts only a few days.

Flights from the UK are not that frequent compared with say Mallorca and as they get full the price can go up significantly. There are more car hire companies at Cagliari Airport than anywhere else I have seen and you can hence get cheap car hire - particularly out of season.

Getting there boat lifted is surprisingly difficult as Cagliri has no lifting at all. I went to Carloforte.

The up sides are cheaper annual berths and uncrowded waters which compared to Mallorca is a revelation.

Anchored in the bay outside the marina last week. Went ashore in the tender and everything was closed. Would not like to be there in the winter, but I imagine it would fine in season

Since you also mentioned the cruising grounds in your OP, further N from Villasimius, along the E coast of Sardinia, Arbatax is another place worth considering.
Aside from being much less dead off-season, cheaper and better equipped for boat maintenance, the local cruising grounds along the Orosei Gulf are great.
That said, depending on how often you plan to travel back and forth to the boat, accessibility may be a nuisance, because it's a 2 hours drive to Cagliari and 2.5 to Olbia, give or take.

Sardegnia is a very nice region for cruising - I depends what you like.
I have been in Villasimius / Capo Carbonara Marina: stayed some nights during spring 2022. It's a good place to have a berth there: secure, calm, good facilities.
BUT during winter time (Sept. - May.) most places closed - no people. And this is valid for many other places around Sardegnia.
The time in winter is quiet and in summer / season it gets very busy ... and also expensive.
But it is a good marina as a starting point if you fly to Calgary and drive with a rental car.
Especially north of Olbia, Madaleina Archipelago, the VIP hot spots Porto Rotondo, Porto Cervo and La Madaleina, mooring for one night and 60ft costs 300-500 euros ... outside anchoring with good weather is free.
In spring 22 I remeber fuel at Arbatrax was appx. 1.75/L - perhaps is also higher during VIP-season.
