Had mine done last week, very pleased with the results, removed about 20 years of antifoul. The chap who did it must have known what he was doing, no damage to the layer of epoxy under the paint.

Suggest you only use someone who is used to doing boats.

Be careful to use someone who knows about gel coats and has experiance of doing boats - there are different grades of grit/sand - some will eat your boat.

Was this the guy that I think you recommended in an earlier post who is based at Galmpton?
What do you intend to do now - re-epoxy or straight on with the antifoul?
Interested to hear of your thoughts as we are in the same position - 20 years of flaking antifoul.

No this ones based in Plymouth and recommended by the boatyard.

I'm surprised how dry the hull is, there is some pitting towarde the stern which I think was there before, strangely that's the driest area.

Not yet decided on whether to re-epoxy, might give it a coat or two before anti-fouling, I'll wait and see how much drier the hull gets over the next 3 months.

Are you talking about sand blasting or slurry blasting? I had my boat slurry blasted (about 600 quid for a big 36ft) and it was very good. I dont know if anyone has has normal sandblasting done.. I should think that there is plenty of chance for damage to the substrate and lots of poisious dust!

Good luck Nick

I was lucky enough to pick up a pressure washer second hand. The makers supply an attachment which mixes sand into the water. Its very effective and not as vicious as a sandblaster. I use normal building sand but whatever is used it must be very dry.
