my Samsung tablet which I think is an s2 has been left without charge for several weeks. after trying to fire it up last night, their was absolutely no response and after leaving it on charge overnight it is still as dead as the proverbial. What can I do to coax it into life? Is their some combination of keys that will bring it back or a new battery?

There are plenty of clips on youtube about this. Apparently if pressing the various combinations of keys gives no joy one can try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. One can also, if necessary, replace the battery itself. Below is one example clip; there are many others. Hope that this is of some help.

Just a thought,it may be worth trying a different charger and different lead. Also clean out the tablet socket with WD 40 or similar. I have had problems with Samsung connectors in the past and also Samsung chargers.

I had the same problem with my Samsung .The charger needs to be the original 2amp charger , not a phone 1/2 amp charger,

If the unit does not power up when the charger is connected, I would first suspect the charger and lead. 2A chargers are commonplace nowadays as a lot of phones use them. Most petrol stations & supermarkets will have one on the shelf.

My old Tab has a proprietary lead. Hopefully yours has a standard mini or micro USB? If so try a new cable. Again any supermarket or petrol station can usually oblige, but don't expect a cheap one to last long.
I get through USB leads like nobody's business because my (Samsung) phone draws 2A when being used as a satnav and it eventually melts the cheaper leads. Likewise the chargers mostly only last from five minutes to a few months.

I have a £10 bet that it's the micro USB port. The OH is on port number 3 in a year and I was talking to a mate yesterday about it who is in the same position. You can fix it yourself but your soldering skills have to be 100% otherwise it's about £70 to get it fixed professionally.

Edit: Both Samsung Tab S2.

Don't think it's charger or lead as it is 2a and chargers my phone's OK. Hope it's not the mini usb port on tablet as this is what killed my last tablet (Hudl).

Sorry but that's very bad advice. There are specialist cleaners available for switches and connectors that will clean them properly and leave no residue.

I thought that when I spent hours and £s on holiday trying to get various chargers to work. At home I used the original charger and lead and there was no problem at all.

I don't remember the detail, but there are different connections in my Samsung lead/charger to those in everyday phone chargers. vaguely remember something about white leads being significant.
Good luck

Mine did this, tried all the button pressing, took the back off, charged the battery separately, no joy. Did some googling and it would appear to be a common problem. Took it to the Samsung store in Oxford street and was told it was beyond economic repair, bloke didn't even want to look at it. If I bother with another tab it certainly won't be Samsung.

To be honest, I have ignored the problem for some time as most of what I used the tab for is now achieved on the phone. However, I may well give it another go since my interest has been piqued by this thread. Connector and battery capacity check look like a good place to start.

That's why mine has been unused - I can do everything I need on smartphone and only use tablet for navionics but I'll be disappointed with the Samsung.
