Yup. A few years ago I took the previous owner up to Arecife marina. The staff in there know me quite well so they took the mickey by asking me to repeat the name a few times and spell. They laughed a lot.... Shortly after I got the owner to do his VHF licence. That's a VHF nightmare!
The name is from a Roald Dahl book.

I thought it was an odd kicking strap...Why is the backstay adjuster under the boom?
It isn't. That's the kicker. Why is the backstay adjuster under the boom?

No idea. The original owner looks here sometimes. I'll ask him.Not what I meant. Why has someone added the backstay tensioner to the kicking strap?

You can see on these photos that the metal bar is used to adjust backstay tension, the kicker is a straight rope and block setup.
Because it was the original fit, before people changed/ upgraded to rod kickers. If you look at the lever there are marked holes for kicker or backstay, giving different mechanical advantage. No idea. The original owner looks here sometimes. I'll ask him.
Ta. I've sent a pm to the original owner. I'm down there tomorrow, I will look. Does fine job on managing sail twist.Because it was the original fit, before people changed/ upgraded to rod kickers.
