Going to do the round UK trip this year, starting from Southampton, via Caledonian canal, what is the recommended route, clockwise or anticlockwise,

Going to do the round UK trip this year,
you will be missing some of the best scenery on offer up here by going through the canal!
Dont underestimate the leg from Peterhead to Firth of Forth. Effectively down the back of the old man's head. Covering this stretch clockwise means a longish leg heading SW into the prevailing wind at a higher latitude. I got stuck in Stonehaven for ages and in the end had to tough it out to get to Arbroath. Going te other way means your high latitude SW sailing is through the canal
Just a thought
There a complete tour on youtube in 32 parts !
It's in motorboat but it might be helpful.
