Sailing round the UK

I would look at the forecast and go whichever way the wind is favourable for the next few days. At least you will get a good start without wave bashing - there will be plenty of that later - whichever way you go round.
Have a good trip

Dont underestimate the leg from Peterhead to Firth of Forth. Effectively down the back of the old man's head. Covering this stretch clockwise means a longish leg heading SW into the prevailing wind at a higher latitude. I got stuck in Stonehaven for ages and in the end had to tough it out to get to Arbroath. Going te other way means your high latitude SW sailing is through the canal
Just a thought

I'm going to be circumnavigating this year but anti clock wise starting from north Wales. Glad to see other people are planning the same. There was a good hand full last year :)

Strangely enough I am not to worried about that bit, I was brought up in Peterhead, and live 20 miles from Arbroath, worked in Aberdeen, so Peterhead, Aberdeen, Montrose, Arbroath, Port Edgar. and I can always go home if stuck with the weather.

I am not really into scenery, to me one scottish island looks very much like another, I am doing the trip for the sake of the adventure, I am a Gemini we do travel not destinations.

However that said I never thought about the "figure of eight idea" thanks for that

Going to do the round UK trip this year, starting from Southampton, via Caledonian canal, what is the recommended route, clockwise or anticlockwise,

It makes no difference at all which way you go.

We met people going both ways as we went round, we went anticlockwise. I recommend you go via Orkney and Shetland if you have the time. The canal is OK if you don't have the time to do it properly.

Books on Kindle tell of folks circumnavigating the Uk, mine is "Boatingdreams" if your interested.

We are heading from NI to Scotland , Isle of Man and Wales, then down to Bristol for this winter, might see you on your journey round and have a cup of tea.
