sailing from the solent to falmouth

If going to Torquay(if you must) the harbour master pontoons would my first choice. When we last went to MDL the staff directed us to already occupied berth(we had booked) and we then spent an age while they found us a new space -they were very offhand generally and didn’t even seem concerned by the drug dealing in the shower block we witnessed. Lack of gate passes,long walk and generally soulless place with derelict shops etc.

Not so many crab pots theses days . The crabs are moving north to colder waters. Noticed I'm not catching so many bait crabs this year.

Crabs hereabouts, lobsters too, are all being eaten by the "bloom" of octopus this last year.
However, all not too bad as the fisherman are doing OK exporting octopus. Not much at all eaten here.

I did not realise that, opposite side of the estuary but good option.

Not much at all ashore in mixtow, probably good for dog walking?
Nearest pub is/was boddinick but that was closing...

The little boatyard cafe type place in mixtow/penmarlam (right at the head of the slipway) has changed hands, and was thriving last year. Does drinks and hot food too, popular.

I tied up there the year Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic Challenger II got the Blue Ribbon - 1986. His boat had just left the pontoon, people had been queueing for a look around it and cash must have been involved, as my kids, looking down between the slats in the pontoon, could see coins, but even with there small hands, they couldn't reach them. I gave them both two screwdrivers and had a couple of hours peace and quiet

Salcombe and Foyey do not have walk ashore pontoons for visitors but they have a water taxi.

Both do have and we’ve stayed on both in the last 6 months.

Actually Blue Riband, though Branson's boat wasn't a passenger vessel and couldn't qualify.
