Sailing Film

Part of the movie was filmed during the "real" vendee globe start, while watching it on tv there was this N+1 boat with actors and cameramen appearing from time to time.

It's all in French, but if you look at the "carnets de bord" at the bottom of the page below, there are 8 videos showing how the filming was done, difficult to be more realistic

(I wonder what a "making of" of Redford's Lost at sea might show :) )
sorry, title "All is lost"

Thanks for that. Magnificent.
This clip showed the speed of the machine in flat seas and then the conditions the film crew had to put up with:

I thought it had already shown in the UK

I really liked the movie (and seen on a megascreen it's really something), very very realistic from the sailing point of view (there is only one scene where the waves appear to be filmed behind the boat), a bit of mellow human story in between but well... it's supposed to be for all public.

At the "première" there were Tanguy de la Motte and Armel le Cleach' (two of the last Vendee globe competitors), they both said "gosh, it's exactly like that".

Personal opinion, I definitely recommend it.
The wider the screen and the better your sound system, the better it is: the noises of the wind, or those of the boat when he is inside are really impressive.

Thanks for the tip, I watched it last night. The sailing scenes are really good, and I assume very realistic (I've never sailed the Southern Ocean or a Vendee Globe boat). The story is a bit weak though. I don't know why he didn't declare a stowaway right away and arrange to have him taken off. The rescue scene was good though, very moving.

In case anyone's interested, although I've bought books rather than DVDs (The original versions of some of Moitessier's books) I've had no problems with ordering from amazon.fr for delivery to the UK. Same credentials as used with other amazons so no additional sign-up etc.
