\"Sailing By\"

Does anyone out there know if it is possible to obtain a recording of the "Sailing By" music that we hear a snatch of before the late night (early morning) shipping forecast.

Re: \"Sailing By\"

Maybe others will have the answer you require but I was heartened when
Sir Robin Knox-Johnston chose it as one of his Desert Island discs a few years ago.

There's a section about it on the BBC website, if you bung 'sailing by' into their search engine, you get it.

Re: DIY version

laa laaa la la la laah
lah lah lah lah lah lah lah laah
lar lar lar
lar lar lar
diddle diddly diddly

(change key, repeat ad nauseum and eventually ...)

lah lah lah lah laaaah.

And here is the weather forecast. It 'll be fine in England, and rubbish in Scotland. Good.

Re: \"Sailing By\"

Thankyou everyone for your replies. I know it's a soppy piece of music but I think back to my first long night passage when I first heard it on a beautiful moonlit night on passage to Alderney and it takes me back to that magical night, the music just seems to fit the moment and conjures up a warm night breeze with a gentle long sea. Nowadays I have to wait so long due to the stupid timing of the BBC forecast, plus having to endure the bedtime story beforehand that I usually fall asleep and miss the bloody forecast anyway.
Particularly liked the DIY version, and his or hers weather forecast.
Wishing you all some good sailing.

related question ( anyone got a long memory?)

Does anyone know the title and/or a source of a recording for the piece that used to be played by BBC World Service just prior to the morning handover to R4 back in the late 80's ( if I remember correctly it was replaced by Enya's 'The Celts' in about 90 or 91)
It is somewhat reminescent of the oboe theme from the film 'The Mission' but it isn't that.

Used to hate 'Sailing By', but after 18 years sailing i'ts grown on me!
