sail cleaning

Does anybody know of somewhere in the Thames valley where I can get my sails washed/cleaned. They are not big but they are pretty dirty.
Also , how can I tell if they are worn out ?

I asked Jeckells, the sailmakers about cleaning sails. They quoted £40 for a clean and check over, plus postage. Their address is in any of the boating magazines. I am inclined to try a hand wash in the bath using some mild soap powder eg lux flakes.
