Running a heater off a perkins.

Many years ago I knew a mechanic who heated his workshop by having a morris minor engine on a stand and about 6 car radiators strung around the room all linked and on tickover they kept the workshop warm. Instead of a heater matrix why not use a proper radiator.

Size.

Sounds like a great project. It would be worth designing the plumbing properly so that the engine and heater are in the same circulation loop (so they are always at the same temperature) and the thermostat only opens and bleeds through the heat exchanger at designed engine operating temperature.

I think perkins designed it about right. The take off from the pump looks to be on the engine side of the thermostat, so 80 c water when the engine warms up all day. No calorifier on this boat.
