Anyone know a source of lip-seals (for use in salt water)?
I need two seals, 60mm x 40mm x 8mm, for my rudder shaft.
I have tried contacting two recommended places, Winch Servicing (who should stock Lewmar seals) and Aztec Marine (who are the UK agents for Jefa).
Neither has bothered to respond to my messages.
Anything special about these seals, are there other non-marine places that would supply them?

Just search on eBay for seals (try oil seals / lip seals / shaft seals) with that spec and stainess springs and you should find lots of sellers ..... modest cost as well.

I've bought dozens over the years from different suppliers.

I bought a similar-sounding set for Ariam from a bearing supplier on a local industrial estate. Rarely for me, it was an over-the-counter purchase (after discovering the lip seals where we'd been told to expect O rings!) so I don't have any old emails to check for you.

Only after installing them did it occur to us that we should have found ones with stainless instead of carbon steel springs, but they were well packed with grease so we're planning to leave them for a few years and replace with stainless only once they start leaking again.

I just replaced mine. Went to the local bearing shop (in Maldon) and bought 2 for £4. Do make sure you ask for a lip seal that has a stainless steel garter spring which most do not have.

You can often replace the garter spring with a skinny 'o' ring.
If push comes to shove, i'm told it's not that expensive to get seals made to custom size.

Thanks for replies so far.
jefa.com are in Denmark - I tried to contact Aztec who are their UK agent, Aztec is one of those who have not replied.
Presume the part I want is the 'gaitor' shown on their price list, price '50', presumably 50 Krone or about 5 quid each.
Someone told me that a couple of the 'proper' seals plus a plastic ring that pushes down to secure them, cost about 100 quid !! Maybe I got that wrong. Maybe that included the work to fit them (which I shall DIY).
Can you buy direct from Jefa, then? Can't see that on their website.

Got mine from Eastern Seals (sales@easternseals.co.uk) for a fiver (60x100x10 in my case). They customized me one by nicking the stainless spring from one seal and popping it into a seal of the right material for salt water (whatever that was, I promptly forgot). Give them a call, they were quick with delivery too.

I have some experience of Jefa and of Aztec as their agents; Jefa I have found very helpful, good technical english when you talk to them and a clear instant response to problems, (PDF technical diagrams emailed back within a day, complete with the name of someone to talk to if needed).
Aztec on the other hand took over six weeks to deliver a wheel from Denmark to Scotland, at one point sending it to Germany as they thought that was where Argyll was, when it did come, their carrier said he did not have time to look for my address but if I chased down the A83 until I saw a big blue truck he would stop and hand it to me. I overtook him about six miles past the village.

I have the same good experience dealing with Jefa directly.
