Here is a little video of our trip to Rubicon Marina. My over all impression was how big it was but also how quiet with very few boat movements

Hiya. I can answer some of your questions!

You mentioned benches. If you recall the Wednesday and Saturday markets, they would make rigging thestands very difficult. A lot of them are stored in that tunnel behind the bars on the east side.

The tenders are from yachts out on the anchorage. Activity here is very dependent on seasons. At the moment a lot of yachts are gathering in the Canaries prior to a transatlantic after the hurricane season. A lot of those bigger ones you saw are pre positioned during the summer. Owners then return for the passage. Last year the marina at this time was so full there were up to 50 yachts at any one time anchored off, many waiting to enter for victuals, fuel, yadda yadda.

Re. The pontoons you can see from the walkway over the water. Again a seasonal thing. After the transat departuresand usually until around April or May, the marina is full of international dinghy racing and training of all types. Rubicon has become a big centre for this. Those pontoons are moved around each year to the outer basin and first pontoon on the south side for racing dingh6 launch and recovery. The existing slipways by that big mast and on the north side by the Chandlery aren't big enough!

Tip, if you drive here on market day, try parking under the mall. Few people do and it keeps the car cool!

The pool is for bertholders but you can get a day pass from the lifeguard. Dunno how much. They used to have a twice a week aquarobics class in the summer. Often just me and twenty scantily clad ladies......

If you have any other questions, happy to help if I can.

Very interesting and thanks for the answers. It just looked so dead but pleased that that is not the case. Either way we both like it there

We stayed at the Hotel Volcan which overlooks the marina, we too enjoyed the location, bars restaurant around the marina, also the walks were good along the front into town and the other way on the cliff - we go in February for our winter sun ??

We went to Praia da Rocha in Portugal this year for a change, stayed at the Tivoli Marina - now that is a boring marina - only movements were the local boats doing the cave trips and a few sailing boats !
