Forecast seems to be getting worse.View attachment 194373
That doesn’t mean anything without referencing which model this is using.
Hence why I use PredictWind which shows a range of models. But they all seem to suggest that getting past the Needles as early as possible before 10am would improve your day compared to getting there later.

I have Windy, which does much the same. You can select individual models, or opt for a comparison graph. Regardless of the precision, they all say things will get progressively worse. We have written off the prospect of racing in the western Solent on Saturday afternoon in open dayboats.

Latest model runs seem to have backed off the 0800-1200 wind by a few knots, but bumped up the 1300 onwards.

which wont be the case for the slower boats that set off last. I do think the organisers must be cursing the weather, if I dont sail which is looking likely then that will be two years I have paid fees and not even started, will I do the same again next year probably not.

This morning’s forecasts look simply breezy and damp rather than anything remarkable?

15kts gusting 30 for my dinghy race tomorrow. Perfect for a fat git. Enough to get me shifting but not so much that it'll be cancelled. A rare case where everyone ended up happy.

The forecast now is almost benign, shame it made people’s blood run a bit cold before. The sea state could be testing tomorrow, it’s blowing a solid F6 here on the South of the island, the patio of the Albion hotel is soaked with spray, the surf is quite impressive. Good luck tomorrow, people. Anyone who wants their photo taken should stand in towards the Royal Solent.

Another 11 now dropped out.

The weather for the race looks fine now, I wonder if the dropouts are mostly people who didn't fancy a positioning sail in over 20kts of wind today. - I'm not convinced today would have been a great day for an elderly crew to beat from Chichester to Cowes, let alone Littlehampton or Brighton.

Judging by the waves breaking over the caissons at Brighton today I imagine it wouldn't have been a relaxing trip and for the most part it has been consistently breezy since the wind turned South Westerly around the second May Bank Holiday weekend . Bringing a boat round from (say) the East Coast would not have been at all fun.

Edit: 735 entries as of this morning
