Weird that we had such different experiences! We’d have liked that breeze down the back, would have got us on the plane properly, rather than just a few surfs.
Our experience was more like Peter's, certainly from half way between the Needles and St Cats.

Impressive mix of types of boats at the top of the fleet. When I have done it in recent years the results have been almost totally shortest first and longest last. Slight exaggeration, but very few boats longer 5han us in front of us.
The Yachtsandyachting.com report follows the all too usual pattern of these reports giving much more prominence to the first to finish ( fastest boat, yawn) rather than the winner

huh? The winner on IRC was the second highest rated monohull entered and took line honours....

It is easier to get quotes from the early finishers though... They're at a bit of a loose end by early afternoon, and tend to advertise their identity with crew kit...

great find thanks - we feature here >> clip at st cats << got round in 7 hrs 3 mins 42 secs corrected which would have placed us 14th in irc overall - but for some reason if you are in sportsboat you don't feature in irc results when every sportsboat entered has an irc certificate?? Anyway i now know that it is possible to put a 3m spinnaker carbon pole a long way into the back of a wave without guaranteed carnage - which is more than can be said for the post race beers and starting so early....hats off to some of the smaller boats who by all accounts had a bumpy and wet finish! image copyright to Paul Knights - on youtube20250609_121904.jpg

This is the forecast on their website....

Which is a little bit lighter than last year. But still going to be something of a sleigh ride down the back of the island.

Looking at the timing, we have an 0800 start, so looking at being at the Needles circa 1000 and St Kats somewhere around 1100/1130 I guess. Bembridge by 1300 and finished by 1500 for a roughly 7 hour lap seems reasonable. We actually start into the last of the flood, so if we're quick enough down the back of the island there is a slim chance we could even have fair tide up the Eastern Solent for the first time ever.

Which, for us, does sort of chime with the idea that we'll be back in the solent before the biggest breeze comes through, but there's a lot of slower boats starting behind us....

Of course it wasn't supposed to be RTI this weekend, until the isle of wight festival created a clash for the 21st....

And what a difference a fortnight makes!
