Thinking of joining the RSYC at Ocean Village. Any comments...is it worth it/facilities/food etc any good?

Royal Southampton Yacht Club is brilliant. Their food is wonderful and resonably priced, the staff are helpful and very pleasent!

They have all sorts of events, discounts on courses and it is a nice environment to sit in as well, especially outside in the summer.

I really recommend it.

Oh, plus you can apply for a Blue Ensign so you can stand above the normal people with red ones!!! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif Only joking guys, before you all attack me........ /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Seriously, the club is the best!!

Have recently submitted my application and await a Membership Interview. Have been in there several times as a guest, always enjoyed food & atmosphere. One reason for my hoping to join is for the excellent and miriad courses they seem to hold at reasonable prices plus the youngsters seem to have quite an active calender. Getting Proposer and Seconders with the requisite criteria, is an art though. Hope to see you soon around OV. Paul

If you are an annual berth holder at OV you do not need to be a member to use the club as you can sign yourself in as a guest whenever you want, although I doubt you will be able to attend any of the events they hold.

Annual birth holders are not allowed to use the club and sign themselves in as guests, if that were the case most of the members would not bother paying!

Visiting yachtsmen are allowed to use the facilities and that is it.

Looks like you have been lucky enough to get away with free access all this time.

We were told by MDL at OV when we took up annual berthing that we had access, and have never been refused admission, although we do not use the facility very often.

Alex,

For the record, the RSYC is a fantastic venue and has a very good reputation overall. When visiting yachts stay in Ocean Village Marina, we do highlight the fact that the RSYC welcome visiting crews as temporary guests. The Club are aware of this arrangement and is keen to promote this relationship. Keep in mind the fact that all visitors are asked to sign in upon arrival and that the 'Master at Arms' keeps a close eye on who does enter the premises combined with the frequency as well!

Jon,

Yes I know, so you are confirming what I said!!

Annual birth holding is not a pass to use the club when you like, however, if you are visiting the marina you are allowed?

An annual birth holder has said that MDL said he can use the club when he likes, hence I have said, I don't think you (MDL) are getting the message across correctly...

Is a 'birth holder' some new terminology for a midwife?? /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
